Sex differences in the impact of PTSD on trajectories and rate of cognitive decline Lead Investigator: Karen Lawrence Institution : University of Kentucky E-Mail : karen.lawrence@uky.edu Proposal ID : 1524 Proposal Description: We propose three aims related to PTSD and cognitive decline within a sex-specific and aging context. First, we will test the hypothesis that a positive PTSD diagnosis will predict more rapid cognitive decline in episodic and working memory as well as in executive functions and that domain-specific rates of decline will differ by sex. To test this, we will use multilevel modeling to generate trajectories and rate of decline in propensity-matched PTSD vs. Non-PTSD. Second, we will test the hypothesis that a positive PTSD diagnosis will predict conversion to dementia in men and women. Using the same propensity-matched groups, logistic regression analysis will be used to determine whether PTSD predicts conversion to all-type dementia. Third, we will examine whether APOE genotype interacts with PTSD to predict the rate of cognitive decline in men and women. This will be tested by performing parallel moderation analyses in men and women.
